Backup & Replication service

Backup and replication allow you to have a copy of a virtual machine (VM) ready to run. If the primary VM fails, you can immediately switch to a standby virtual machine.

Data integrity and the fastest possible recovery time in the event of a system failure are key business requirements for cloud infrastructure. Veeam Backup & Replication is a reliable and flexible solution to maximize the availability of your systems through backup and instant recovery.

Backup allows you to simultaneously save all data of virtual machines to external storage. Even if the server fails, the information is not lost, it can be restored from the backup source. This normally takes time, but with Veeam Backup & Replication you can avoid temporary losses. This solution is designed for automated backups.

You configure the intervals at which backups are created. Replication frequency starts at 15 minutes.

What is Replication

Veeam Backup & Replication is more than just backup. It allows you to eliminate manual backups and restores - once set up, the backup process and disaster recovery are done without IT involvement. The backup time can be set so that it does not disrupt business processes, for example at night.

In the event of a disaster, Veeam Backup & Replication automatically restores your virtual machine to the standby server. With a complete replica of the primary server, uptime is dramatically reduced. Users often do not even notice the downtime.

Backup and Replication

Benefits of the solution

  • Reduce losses. Minimises the risk of data loss in the event of a system failure. Corrupted or deleted files can be recovered.
  • Ensures business continuity. Data loss due to failure will not affect ongoing business processes. They can be recovered in minutes.
  • Preserves the latest versions of data.Backup server replication allows you to recover the latest, up-to-date versions of lost data.

Difference between Replication vs. BaaS and Metrocluster

With BaaS, copies of data are made periodically. If the data is damaged or completely lost, it can be restored from the copy.

Disaster Recovery (backup data centre) is a fully functional copy of the original IT infrastructure. In the event of a failure, it switches to the backup data centre while work is carried out to restore the main system. Data replication is automatic.

The difference between Metrocluster and Disaster Recovery is that in the case of an outage, the switch to the backup data centre is fully automated. This is a more expensive option and is usually used if even a second downtime is critical to the business.

Solution benefits

  • Ensure resilience in critical areas, protecting data of any complexity.
  • Emergency preparedness and immediate system recovery in the event of outages, ransomware attacks.
  • Support for replicas created from the VM image, providing high availability (local replicas) and disaster recovery (remote replicas).
  • Easily switch to and from replica with synchronization of changes.

How it works

To create a replication, Veeam Backup & Replication completely copies the virtual machine image and registers a copy of it on the target ESX(i) host. It then copies only the data blocks that have changed since the last session and creates a new restore point. This allows you to roll back the virtual machine to the last saved state at any time.

Storage policy settings allow you to create any number of restore points. Deduplication and data compression technologies regulate network bandwidth so that data replication between servers does not consume all network resources.

FAQ

What is Backup Data Center?
Backup and replication allow you to have a copy of the virtual machine (VM) ready to run. n the event of a primary virtual machine crash, you can instantly switch to a standby VM.
Can I use it as a file storage and allow other users to access it?
No, you can't. Use Cloud storage for this.
How does it work and what software is used?
It works through Veeam software.
Can I specify the number of copies?
Yes, you can.
Can I extract the data?
Yes, you can.
Is the entire VM backed up or can I back up individual files and folders?
The entire virtual machine is backed up. It is not possible to back up individual files or folders.
Do we need any software?
Yes, Veeam Client is required.
